Tez Ilyas was born and raised in Blackburn. He started his career as a civil servant, after studying biochemistry at Lancaster University where he also completed a master's degree. Tez fell into comedy after googling online writing courses and completing a week long open mic workshop, before becoming a comedian in June 2015.
In his first year as a full time stand up comedian Tez hit the ground running finding himself in no less than eight competition finals including the prestigious BBC New Comedy Award and Leicester Mercury New Comedian of the Year. In 2015 Tez achieved phenomenal success with his debut stand up hour TEZ Talks, and has since enjoyed sell-out success with two more shows, the third of which, Teztify he is currently touring nationally.
Tez has appeared on The Last Leg (C4), Mock the Week (BBC Two), Live From the BBC (BBC Two), Man Like Mobeen (BBC Three), Live from the Comedy Store (Comedy Central), Kevin Hart’s Live from Montreal (LOL Network), Virtually Famous (E4), The Now Show (BBC Radio 4) and made a brand new quiz show pilot for Vice. He has also written and starred in his own scripted comedy shorts for BBC Three, BBC iPlayer and Sky Arts.
