This award is open to any retail business. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Creative & Digital Award

This award is open to creative and media businesses including those in digital and graphic design, online marketing, advertising, PR, photography, film, video-making, music, theatre, publishers, craft makers, artists and related sectors. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Professional Services Award

This award is open to any professional services business including accountants, solicitors or lawyers. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Health, Wellbeing & Social Care Award

This award is open to any health, wellbeing or social care business including pharmacies, dentists, care providers, nurseries, hairdressers, beauty therapists, rehabilitation and nutrition businesses. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Catering & Hospitality Award

This award is open to any catering and hospitality business including restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars, takeaway, outside caterer or food or drink producer. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Buzz Award

Open to public, private and third sector organisations, this award is for an attraction, event, campaign or retail business that has shone a light on the borough and attracted visitors to Blackburn and Darwen. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Commitment to Innovation & Technology Award

This award is for digital businesses including web design and development agencies, SEO / PPC agencies, E-commerce agencies, social media agencies, websites or digital marketing agencies, software or hardware developers, cloud / hosting companies or similar. Judges will be looking for a commitment to innovating in the workplace. That innovation might be product or service related; it might be related to your people and how they work; or it might be a process innovation that has changed the way you work or made you more efficient.

The Manufacturing Excellence Award

This award is open to manufacturing businesses. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Family Business Award

This award is open to all family run businesses. Judges will be looking for companies who: • Are family owned and operated • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Commitment to Blackburn & Darwen Award

Open to public, private and the third sectors this award is for a business that can demonstrate commitment to Blackburn and Darwen life – you may be a local business with a strong CSR policy or perhaps you’re a long established business that’s part of the fabric here in Blackburn with Darwen. We’re looking for businesses that put effort in to retaining our best people through local employment, investment in skills and training, a commitment to local procurement or commitment to our communities through support of sport, community, the arts or charity.

The Investing in Future Skills Award

This award is for businesses developing skills with a dedication to upskilling their own workforce whilst providing opportunity to improve the skills of other people. You may offer training programmes such as apprenticeships, offer work experience or placements, judge student work or visit and speak to students about job opportunities within the borough.

The Growth Business Award

This award is for businesses which can show high turnover growth – at least 20 per cent on your previous financial year. Entrants will not be judged by the number alone, however. We want to know how you’re achieving your growth and what measures you’ve put in place to manage and control it.

The Environmental Business Award

This award is open to all businesses. Judges will be looking for companies which: • Demonstrate a commitment to the environment through company initiatives • Have made a positive and memorable impact on their community, environment or equivalent

The New Business Award (Less than 3 Years Old)

This award is open to all businesses less than 3 years old on 25 June 2020. Judges will be looking for: • A strong business idea and vision • Evidence of a strong business plan • Good initial trading results / evidence of managing cash flow / securing funding • Examples of new contracts or clients won / strong sales

The Hive Business School Award

This award is open to all businesses who work with schools in the Blackburn and Darwen area. This should outline the specific partnership that exists with the school and how this has helped to develop your business while encouraging the retention of skills and employees to the region. We’re looking for businesses who are investing now in skills and training of the future workforce with a commitment to local procurement and our communities through meaningful and successful partnerships.

Hive Micro Business of the Year (10 or Less Full-time Employees)

This award is open to all businesses with 10 or less full time employees. Judges will be looking for: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

Hive Small Business of the Year (11 - 25 Full Time Employees)

This award is open to all businesses with 11 - 25 full time employees. Judges will be looking for: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

Hive Medium Business of the Year (26 - 50 Full Time Employees)

This award is open to all businesses with 26 - 50 full time employees. Judges will be looking for: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

Hive Large Business of the Year (51+ Full Time Employees)

This award is open to all businesses with 51 or more full time employees. Judges will be looking for: • Have increased or maintained sales during the past 12 months • Deliver a high quality service and exceptional customer service • Have identified or exploited new markets, income stream or opportunities • Demonstrate commitment to their employees through development and training and have good staff retention rates

The Hive Rising Star Award (Under 30 Years Old)

This award is open to individuals under 30 years old on 25 June 2020 who are making a positive impact in their workplace. This award can be third party or self nominated. Judges will be looking for: • An individual who has demonstrated true effort and commitment to their own personal development • An individual who has made a positive and memorable difference to the company they work with • Evidence of outstanding progression within their company

The Hive Employee of the Year

This award is open to individuals who are making a positive impact in their workplace. This award can be third party or self nominated. Judges will be looking for: • An individual who has demonstrated true effort and commitment to their own personal development • An individual who has made a positive and memorable difference to the company they work with • Evidence of outstanding progression within their company

The Hive Entrepreneur of the Year

This award is open to all entrepreneurs. This award can be self or third person nominated. Judges are looking for: • An experienced and established entrepreneur who has achieved notable success in their field • Evidence of starting one or more successful businesses that have shown growth in the past 12 months • Evidence of ambition / strong plans for future growth or a successful exit

The Arte Et Labore Award

This award will recognise a long-term commitment by an individual to making Blackburn and Darwen a more prosperous borough and a better place to live, learn, work, visit and invest. The recipient of this award will be selected by the Hive steering group, and is not open for entries or nominations.

The Hive Chairman's Award

The recipient of this award will be selected by the chairman of Hive, and is not open for entries or nominations.
